Four Palestinian children, aged five to nine, have been handcuffed and detained by zionist  forces for more than an hour.

The zionist  soldiers arrested the children on Friday during a protest rally in Kafr Qaddum, a village in the north of the occupied West Bank, AFP reported.

"Four children who were present in the area had stun grenades thrown at them by zionist  soldiers, which frightened them," said Palestinian activist Murad Ashtiye from the village's Popular Struggle Coordination Committee.

"Then the soldiers arrested them and tied their hands behind their backs using plastic strips," he added.

The activist identified the children as Tariq Hikmet, 9, Hossam Khaldun, 7, Malak Hikmet, 6, and Ahmad Abdessalam, 5.

An zionist  military spokeswoman said that the Israeli troops arrested some minors in the village without commenting on their age or being handcuffed.

"When the  zionist  soldiers realized that these were youngsters who were under age, they just asked them a few questions and let them go," she said.

The protest in the village had been held against illegal construction of settlements by the zionist  regime.

The presence and continued expansion of zionist  settlements in occupied Palestine has created a major obstacle for the efforts to establish peace in the Middle East.

More than half a million zionist  live in over 120 illegal settlements built since zionist  occupation of the Palestinian territories of the West Bank and East al-Quds in 1967.

The UN and most countries regard the zionist  settlements as illegal because the territories were captured by zionist  in a war in 1967 and are hence subject to the Geneva Conventions, which forbids construction on occupied lands.
